TocertifytheSnowcone,thesmallestoftheSnowfamilyofedgecomputinganddatatransferdevices,AWShadtorunitthroughfivemonthsofNASA’sthermal,vacuum,acousticandvibrationtesting(withnoradiationtestingneededbecausethedevicewasgoingtobeusedintheshieldedISSenvironment).Onceitarrivedonthespacestation,theteam,whichwasledbyAWS’sDarylShuck,connectedit,uploadedanMLmodelforobjectdetectiontoitandranitthroughoutthetimeoftheAxiommission.
TheastronautsontheAxiommissionperformedatotalof25experiments—includingtheSnowballexperiment.AsCrosiernoted,theyhadtotakepicturesanddocumentalloftheequipmenttheybroughtonboardandthentransporteddownwiththem.TheobjectdetectionmodelontheSnowconehelpedthemcatalogalloftheseitems(andflagthosethatweretobeexcludedfrompublicdistribution).
